Slippery 7 Miles

I made sure to get out and run today because the forecast is not looking good for the next several days. Starting on Monday we’re supposed to have temperatures as low as -15 degrees. We had a lot of snow this week, including yesterday so I wasn’t expecting great conditions. I got what I expected.

The path had been snow blown, but there was still a layer of snow under foot. I do not own any spikes so I was slipping and sliding a bit. It wasn’t horrible but my stride was affected; I was much stiffer than I would have been on a dry path.

The weather was about 23 degrees, but there was no wind at all. I wore too many layers on top (3). By mile one I had to take off my jacket and tie it around my waist.

The sky was gloriously blue, and occasionally, if I caught it out of the corner of my eye, the water was the same color of the Caribbean sea.

Okay, maybe I’m being a bit delusional…or maybe I’m just dreaming about my vacation to Mexico that is only a few weeks away.

I ran around Back Cove and then down to the Eastern Prom. As I passed the Graffiti wall, I noticed the back ground was black.

Last time I took a picture of the graffiti wall, the background was white.

I did another fasting run, since I’m running to lose weight, and just before mile 5, I felt the hunger. I thought that if I was in a race, I should have had a gel or something before this point so I wouldn’t be hungry. I will try to remember that on my 10 miler that’s coming up in two weeks!

When I got home, I logged onto Amazon and bought these STABILicers running cleats. My husband has a pair and ran the same course I just did at the same time, and he said they were perfect. They change his stride a bit, but certainly not more than I had to alter mine to keep from sliding all over the place. I’m excited to try them out. Thanks to Amazon Prime, they’ll be here by Wednesday, just in time for the next storm.
