Day 234 | My Adventurous Weekend

Our boat

My weekend was, for me in my own little way, an extreme sports weekend.  I ran 10 miles on Friday afternoon.  This was the first time I had ever done a double digit run and it was really exciting for me.  I ran a beautiful route along the water, which made it all the more memorable.

Back Cove – about 1.5 miles to go.

After the run, we headed north to The Forks where we were spending the weekend. The cabin we all stayed at was huge and wonderful. We got up Saturday morning and walked to where we had to get our gear and meet the buses.

Ready to Raft
Here we are with our gear, getting schooled in how not to die.

We spent over 3 hours out on the water. The beginning of the trip was full of rapids and was challenging but the second half was calmer and we had more time to just float.

Our boat
Here is our boat, with our guide named "Ox". I'm on the far left of the picture.

The rafting trip was amazing. I loved the intensity of going over the rapids and how we all had to push to get the boat to do what our guide wanted it to do. I loved the quiet moments as well when we were just flowing with the current. My favorite part was being able to jump in and swim. The force of the current was much stronger than I had expected and it moved us along very fast. Even after three hours, I didn’t get fatigued at all, which really surprised me. I knew I’d be able to handle the physical aspect of rowing, but I thought I would at least be sore. I’m not sore at all today and I’m really proud of that.
